Silicon Valley food service innovator eyes huge operation in Dallas - The Dallas Morning News

A fast-growing food industry service firm is eyeing a major new facility in southern Dallas.

California-based Zume Inc. plans to lease a more than 1 million-square-foot warehouse and distribution center at 9155 Southlink Drive near Interstate 20.

The transaction would be one of the largest industrial building deals in North Texas this year.

Zume Inc. is growing to serve clients around the country from its base in Mountain View. The firm provides high-tech food packaging, automated production systems, delivery operations and other state-of-the-art food industry services to clients including Pizza Hut.

Plano-based Pizza Hut worked with Zume to create a biodegradable round delivery box that has been tested in some markets.

Founded in 2015, Zume first gained attention for its delivery vehicles, which cook food while they are rolling to the customers.

“We do not already have an operation in Texas,” a Zume representative said in an email. “We do not have anything to disclose beyond this at this time but we’ll be sure to reach out when we do.”

The Dallas City Council is scheduled to vote early next year on whether to provide Zume with economic incentives to set up its huge new operations in the I-20 corridor.

“Applicant company anticipates leasing the entire 1,044,647-square-foot facility and investing approximately $14,900,000.00 in tenant improvements and $235,500,000.00 in furniture/fixtures and equipment for the creation of a facility that will design, process and manufacture biodegradable, renewable material associated with food packaging,” the city of Dallas said in a public filing.

The warehouse Zume plans to lease was developed by Houston-based Hines as part of a larger industrial development.

Zume has locations in California, Washington state, Connecticut and India.
